Soccer Time

The soccer season is now in full swing. The boys had their first soccer game on Saturday and we played at Auburn. It was a very nice day out so we all got a little sunburned and the boys worked up a sweat on the soccer field. The wind was a bit of a pain, but I can handle that with the temperatures in the upper seventies.

Jordan's games were first and they got beat in both of them. The first game was 1-2 and the second game was 0-1. Jordan did a great job but was a little tuckered at the end of the second game. He ended up having to play two games back to back since we were short kids. Jordan's best position is forward, and he had three shots at the goal but just missed them by a couple of feet or less. For the first game, it went pretty well, and now we have an idea of what to work on for the next game with the kids. Keep up the good work Jordan!!!

Zach's game was the last one of the day but a lot of fun to watch. It is always interesting watching the young ones play. Everybody wants the ball and everybody wants to score and so you always have ten kids going after one ball and it can get quite comical at times. And they all take it so seriously and that makes it even more fun to watch. Zach won his game and I think the score was 3-0. Zach scored one of those goals and it was scored in the last minute. He did a great job and really started to get going towards the end of the game. He is a great little ball handler and he likes to play goalie. Keep working hard Zach!!!

That evening we had a grill out with the family. Dad H., Jeff, Dawn, and Mom B. all came over for some really great food. Dawn provided all the food and Curt did the grilling. Thanks to both of you for that. It was a fun evening spending time together, eating, and watching the race.

Have a great week everyone!!!

Field Trip to Henry Doorly Zoo

Last Thursday I went on a 4th grade field trip with Jordan to the zoo. It was better than expected but a tad cold outside. That didn't seem to bother the kids though. They all seemed to really enjoy themselves but it made for a long day when we left at 8am and didn't get back to Rockwell City until 7pm.

When we got to the zoo, we started off with lunch (which was outside in 45 degree weather). Then we broke into four groups and had a tour guide take us through the monkeys, apes, cats, and the pavillion. We lost a lot of interest there from the kids because our tour guide was a bit dull and took forever. Once that was over, we were on our own with our group for two hours. We got to go into the aquarium, the dessert dome, the jungle and the kingdom of the night. The kids like the last spot the best because it had alligators and bats in the dark. Once we were done at the zoo, we stopped off for an early supper at McDonald's and then headed home.

All in all, it was a pretty good day and I was happy to have spent the time with Jordan. And I want to thank Jeff, Dad, and Dawn for helping out and watching the other kids so I could go on this field trip.

Easter Egg Hunt

Not only did we spend the weekend up in Aberdeen (see the post below), but we also got to have an Easter egg hunt up there in the snow. Yes, snow!!! Before we got up to Aberdeen on Thursday, they had about 5-7 inches of snow fall earlier in the week and the cold weather kept it around all weekend. But you know kids, they are up for anything and liked having the hunt outside. It may have been a little cold for the adults, but it was fun watching the kids and trying to help them find their own eggs. They all had their own with their names on them, that way we know that they all got the same amount of money and candy.

What fun and an Easter egg hunt to remember!

Trip to Aberdeen

This Easter weekend we made trip up to Aberdeen, SD to visit Curt's sisters. It was a fun trip and the kids loved it because they had their cousins to play with. Our kids and Brenda and Amy's kids are all close in age so everyone pretty much had someone to play with and Gavin even got quite a bit of attention from all the kids. He just pretty much does his own thing anyway.

I'm sure the kids would say that the best part of the weekend was the indoor aquatic center at the YMCA. We spent almost three hours there on Saturday and the kids loved every minute of it. That was Gavin's first time in a pool and he wasn't too fond of it until about an hour and a half later. Then he liked to sit in the water and splash. Riley loved the little kid slide and the shooting water that you can turn on and off with a wheel. The boys loved everything in there. The nicest thing about the YMCA for the parents was that it sure did tucker the kids out for the night and everyone slept great.

Overall it was a great weekend with great meals, great company, and a great time together as family.

Typical Week

Hello all! It has been an unadventurous week for us here at the Batta house. I will say though that allergy season has caught up to us. Since last weekend was so nice and all the trees and bushes are budding it has brought on the runny noses, itchy eyes, and scratchy throats. Gavin especially!! That poor kid had a tough couple of nights sleeping from being all stuffed up. Zach is another one that usually gets hit hard with the allergies, but his his more in the late summer and fall.

Soccer season has begun for Jordan. He had his first practice last Thursday. Zach's first practice will be on Monday. Curt is coaching Jordan's team again this year and he is helping out with Zach's. He loves to stay busy so that will be good for him. Jordan is at the age now that it is more competitive for the kids and they get into it more. For Zach it is just everyone wanting a chance to kick the ball. Hopefully it will be a fun year for them!

I guess I forgot that the boys got their report cards this week and they are doing an incredible job. We are very proud of them. It is nice when you have kids that enjoy school and try their best at it, it makes it a lot easier for the parent.

Hope you all have a good week!
