Vacation Photo - Part 2

Grand Portage, Minnesota. We started the day off with an hour and a half trip up to the border of these Great United States of America. We never had any plans to cross over on to Canadian soil, but it was kind of cool to be so close to another country. Grand Portage is all an Indian reservation so our trip up here was all about the Indian culture, the traders, and voyageurs of this area. I won't go into all the details of the history, but I found it very interesting and it was nice to see the kids intrigued by all the information.

Curt and the kids at the visitor center at Grand Portage, it was also a small museum of Indian life of 200 years ago.
Animal skins, such an interest for the kids. The bear skin was pretty cool, the claws are massive.
A small traditional Ojibwe Village from years ago. Beautiful views of the Lake.
Jordan going to work for us. This place had people engaged in everyday skills and they would let us take part in their work and explain to us what life was like 200 years ago.
Beautiful attire for my handsome hubby. :o)
Zach looked like my very own Leprechaun. He loved this outfit.
Riley and Gavin couldn't miss out in the fashion show.
Gavin loved this bear rug. I couldn't get him out of this room and we had to come and visit the bear again before we left.
The trading post. Every trade was measured in beaver pelts. This was some of the stuff they could trade for.
The dock off of the village.
High Falls at Grand Portage State Park, Minnesota's highest waterfall.

Riley and the waterfall. Canada was just off to the right of these falls.
Scenic view off of HWY 61. So pretty.
Judge CR Magney State Park. Upper Falls. We could sit here forever just watching the waterfalls.
Jordan and Zach's favorite Falls, Devil's Kettle (also at the Judge CR Magney State Park). It was so cool to see part of the waterfall split off and run into a deep hole. Not sure where the water came out.
